Possibly Innocent, Possibly Cavalier, Possibly Overzealous, Positively Stupid
(This is not an urbanism-related entry, unless you consider military bombing of residences bad urbanism.)
As widely reported, yesterday Central Command released a press release apologizing--but only partially--for mistakenly bombing a house in Aitha, Iraq, near Mosul. The caveat here was that the victims of the bombing were "possibly innocent."
Apparently Central Command feels it has no reason to take complete responsibility. After all, maybe the military got lucky and hit a blindfolded hole-in-one. Those killed might have been doing something or another to aid the enemy. That's vindication enough, ostensibly.
