Emergency Seen Through the Public's Cameras
This I find astonishing. London's emergency still fresh, several amateur photographers and video capturers yesterday created a Flickr photo pool and uploaded images related to yesterday's bombings. Already the pool has 742 shots at the time of writing, despite that fewer than two days have passed since the event. These pictures include lots of screen shots of websites and TV coverage as well as moderately messy street scenes. (I heard about this through Third Rail, but AP has also pointed to it.)
Supposedly this sort of thing represents a very large trend in the news media, given the popularity of camera phones and other such devices.
...And alternate sources include not only amateur photography and video but also traffic cameras.
July 10: ...And not to forget Wikipedia's 7/7 entry--history instantly recorded by the crowd (thanks, "On the Media").
